The Oath - Not My Bad!
OK, I admit it. I was a little nervous taking the Oath of Office today. Maybe I got a little
too excited and started repeating the oath a tad bit too early. (Hey, I was up all night last
night going over and over it - - I was READY!). I even wrote out the words ahead of time for
Mr. Chief Justice just to be on the safe side.
But then when Mr. Chief Justice started scrambling
the words around, I felt like I was in a Twilight Zone episode. Was this just another one of those
weird dreams I've been having? One night I dreamt I showed up at the Inauguration without my
pants on... Then there was that dream about the White House kitchen serving nothing but jellybeans
and pork rinds... Is this for real? Is the Chief Justice really feeding me the wrong lines?
Finally, Mr. Chief Justice figures out his bad and repeats the words in the right order. Only by
then, the words were jumping around my brain so fast, I rescrambled 'em. Finally, it was over
and I was President Obama... So help me God. Now the lawyer-types around here want a "do-over". This time, Mr. Chief Justice had better carry
a 3x5 card with him just in case!
All in all, it was a magnificent day - for me, for my family, and for the country. Well, maybe not
so much for Mr. Chief Justice...
