The Entrance Hall leads guests to the White House from the visitor's entrance into the East Wing of the building. The Cross Hall is a broad hallway running east to west connecting the State Dining Room with the East Room. The room is used for receiving lines following a State Arrival Ceremony on the South Lawn, or a procession of the President and a visiting head of state and their spouses.
From this vantage point, you can get a good idea of the level of activity going on in the White House at any particular point in time.
